Portfolio updates are being made. Thank you for your patience.

I am a mentor, not just a proofreader.
I work with students collaboratively and guide them through the process of composition and revision.

How I help
Thesis development
Writing a good essay begins with having a strong argument. Developing an original and compelling thesis statement can be challenging for young writers. I encourage students to begin with their own observations about their subject, then expand from there.
Grammar skills
Where do commas go? What verb tense should I use? Et cetera. I know the rules and can provide plenty of tricks for remembering them.
Citations &Â style
I have experience with all of the most common citation/reference styles for high school and college students (MLA, APA, AP, and Chicago).
Time management & revision
Good essays cannot be forced out the night before a deadline. Trust me, I've tried. I am here to hold students accountable to the process of writing and revision. Developing this skill is an important step toward actually enjoying writing and avoiding frustration.
My experience
Peer tutor
As a senior English major at Trinity University (San Antonio), I was asked to support first-year students in a mandatory writing seminar course. I helped the professor lead classroom discussion and worked individually with the students outside of class. I discovered my passion for nurturing students' writing.
Writing center staff
As a part-time employee of the campus writing center, I was available for any student who needed guidance on their analytical essays or research papers. The role was a great opportunity to work with students from various departments and practice different reference styles. I have experience with all of the most common style conventions (MLA, APA, AP, and Chicago).
Student mentor
Mentoring undergraduate students at an international college in Taiwan, I assisted their essay-writing and advised their adjustment to college life. I was also responsible for composing weekly newsletters and other communications for the college.
Content creator and editor
In addition to mentoring, I work as a freelance content creator and editor. Clients have hired me for support with blogs, reports, and even full-length books.
Writing is the most challenging yet most rewarding skill students are asked to perform.
I myself struggled with writing in high school and even came to despise it. As I moved on to college, I realized there was no way around it.
Developing one's writing ability is not only about getting good grades. To get good at writing requires patience and a willingness to fail. It is humbling.
Ultimately, the practice of writing unlocks the skills of effective communication and persuasion, which are powerful skills for anyone in life and career.
Writing has empowered me in so many ways in my own life that I love sharing the art with young people.

My goals as a mentor are that students discover their own enthusiasm for writing and develop confidence in their own ability, such that they will be effective communicators in high school, college, and beyond.
