Jenny's Leashes Brand

Custom handmade leashes

With no other career opportunities panning out due to the pandemic, I knew I needed to get scrappy. I decided to start this Etsy shop to sell leashes that my mom (Jenny) braids by hand. My goals were to learn how to market a product online and generate some extra income for my mom. By combining my skills as a copywriter and marketer with her skills as a professional photographer I established the Jenny's Leashes brand that quickly became a Bestseller.

As an entrepreneur, I am proud to say that my mom was my first employee.

Etsy Bestselling Shop

150+ leashes sold in first year

After some market and competition research, I coordinated with my mom to determine the unique value proposition of our product. Despite the market being saturated with similar products, I noticed some distinct opportunities. Those opportunities were offering free shipping and streamlining the customer experience. The latter required some savvy copywriting and media direction to curate the right images on the shop that could educate and guide the customer.

After a couple months of tweaking, our shop started to blow up. Since then, the shop has averaged 15 orders per month (~$500 revenue), which, I am proud to say, earns an extra couple hundred dollars for my mom each month.

Promotional Cards

Front/Back

I created these high-resolution glossy cards to promote our online shop when we sell leashes in person. My mom who regularly attends dog-related events brings leashes to sell and hands these out to customers.

The goals of this promo card were to highlight the vibrancy and variety of the product while communicating our credibility as a brand by sharing some customer testimonials.

Instagram & Facebook Marketing

Holiday sale paid promotion

Our social media presence on Facebook and Instagram is important for our business. Every customer gets to see a sneak peak of their custom leash before we ship it. We've found that it is a good resource for new customers who are looking for inspiration about what colors to order for their own leash. Sometimes, new customers will simply send a link of a leash they like from the Instagram and ask us to recreate it.

This paid promoted post of our holiday sale generated 300+ website visits and $600 revenue.

Business Cards

Front/Back

These cards were the first promo material I made for our shop. I made them because I encounter so many people who ask about my colorful dog leash when I take my dog out for a walk. I realized there was an opportunity to market my product, so I started carrying these cards around with me every time I took my dog out.

I also made cards for my mom and sister with unique QR codes, so we could track who was sending in business. I even offered some commission for orders that came from their unique coupon code, establishing a sort of affiliate marketing program.

Thank You Note to Buyers

Sent with every order

As the manager of the online shop, I am responsible for communicating with customers and creating a positive customer experience.

I created this note primarily to express our sincere appreciation for the customer and share a call-to-action to leave a review on our shop. This note is an optional, personal touch that conveys our brand's humanity and commitment to the customer.

Because of those elements, our shop has a couple dozen flawless 5-star reviews that rave about our product and our customer service.
